I always go into writing and music gigs with a fair amount of trepidation—worried I won’t be as rehearsed or poised as the other guests, and will thus stick out like a sore thumb. I have to remind myself that almost everyone has those worries in these situations. But to combat that, I rehearse the dickens out of my material, and when the show rolls around I end up having too much fun to worry about being under-prepared.
We were second in the line-up, after a great 3 person band REINS.
Johnny and I might’ve had more fun during our set than the audience did, we cracked jokes and had a great time just listening to each other during the songs. Johnny out-did himself with musical instruments, here’s our setlist:
In the Highways (from the OBWAT soundtrack), Johnny on guitar
Honey in the Coffee (Ed original), Johnny on electric guitar/base hybrid thingy that was awesome
Amble A (Ed original), Johnny on guitar
I Am Weary, Let Me Rest (from the OBWAT soundtrack), Johnny on mandolin
Big Rock Candy Mountains (from the OBWAT soundtrack), Johnny on guitar
At the end of the night all the musical acts came together and sang the two most recognizable hits from the soundtrack: Down in the River to Pray and Man of Constant Sorrow.
Lots of friends turned out to see the show, and that was really great. Here’s hoping tonight’s show with Collector’s Edition is just as much fun!
