There's a lot going on, my darlings. Shall we? Do let's:
Reading Out Loud
Reading Out Loud is the short fiction podcast that I'm an Editor for. We seek out short stories and produce them in fully realized audio podcast episodes with professional voice actors and sound designers. Season 3 kicks off this Thursday, 21st! What is different this year is that we've made our season more compact and will be releasing one story a WEEK (instead of one per month), and the season will go from late April through the end of June, instead of a lengthier season. We're pretty excited about it!
Keep an eye on our site and on our tweets, because we'll be opening for new submissions soon!
On a personal note, I am especially excited that one of our Season 3 stories is by Celena Cipriaso, a perceptive writer and playwright with a talent for achingly relatable stories. Check her out, she's up to some cool things.
WBEZ's PleasureTown
We (the creators, producers and staff writers) are deep in the throes of writing PleasureTown's third season. The arc and characters are sketched out, and we're now in the process of writing the episodes. What's especially compelling to me is how PT, a podcast that follows the happenings of a fictional town in Oklahoma around 1900, aims to reflect many of the issues and struggles that are currently on our minds and the minds of our listeners. Issues of class, race, gentrification, gender, feminism, mental illness, etc. These are important to us and we want to address them in the world of PleasureTown, which presents a fascinating opportunity for us to work through these issues along with our listeners.
Upcoming Performance: Paper Machete 4/30
On Saturday 4/30 I'm returning to the Paper Machete to deliver a pop-culture/current event driven piece at the always fabulous Green Mill in uptown. This show is always great, as evidenced by its standing-room-only crowd every single week! Come on out, but come early to grab a seat ;) Show is 3-5pm with live music and kick-ass performers.
So many good things!
